Warming Hearts & Homes

The SHARING fund, also known as the Chesapeake Emergency Energy Recipient Program (CHEERP), was incorporated in 1983. Last year alone, over 400 grants totaling more than $100,000 were provided to those in need on Delmarva.

Chesapeake Utilities Corporation created the SHARING fund with donations provided by customers, employees, the community and Chesapeake Utilities Corporation to ensure that the elderly, ill and those facing financial hardship are not forgotten during the cold winter months when energy bills are at their peak.

What Type of Help is Available?

Grants are available to income eligible customers of Chesapeake Utilities and Sharp Energy with additional amounts available to those over the age of 60. In addition, the SHARING program offers additional grants for appliance purchases or repair, the recently unemployed, and customers who are in need due to serious illness or a family tragedy.

 

Who is Eligible for Assistance?

SHARING grants are available for all eligible customers of Chesapeake Utilities or Sharp Energy living on Delmarva. Applications for the grants are available through Catholic Charities in Kent and New Castle Counties in Delaware (302.674.1782), Sussex County, Delaware (302.856.9578, ext. 1) and Shore-Up! in Maryland (410.749.1142).

 

What Can You Do To Help?

You can help your neighbors in need by making a donation to the SHARING program. Your tax-deductible contribution to the SHARING program will help keep needy families warm in winter. To make a donation, please download and complete the SHARING Donation Form , enclose your one-time donation (no cash please), and mail to:
